Mossgreen Gallery - Important Exhibition of Australian Ceramics –
A Tribute to Janet Mansfield OAM (1934-2013)
Exhibition Duration 1-22 February 2014Finely thrown porcelain vessels provide Pippin Drysdale with elegantly balanced vehicles for exploration and expression of the colours, space, geography and spirituality of this wide brown land of Australia. Just as the poet Dorothea Mackellar used the words of her iconic poem to highlight the mystery, beauty and extremes of this unique landscape, so these forms embody a sense of timeless, breathtaking space and the mesmerising vast openness as sky meets land at infinite horizons in the extraordinary desert regions of this country. Brilliant colours reflect the true actual intensity of baked red earth, extraordinary vibrant rock formations and geological mysteries that must be experienced to be believed. Groups of porcelain forms now explore a sense of interweaving across and through landscapes, the study of unique landforms and their flora plus an engagement with cultural, social and political agendas that lie alongside.
